OpenWRT logo The OpenWRT team has released version 12.09 (code name: Attitude Adjustment) of the Linux distribution for routers. As was the case in the beta version, Attitude Adjustment no longer supports Linux kernel 2.4. This affects older router models with just 16MB memory and slow CPUs (200MHz), such as Linksys WRT54G models. Attitude Adjustment does now run on Ramips routers and the mini-computer Raspberry Pi (bcm2708), however.

OpenWRT 12.09 also sees the old script-based system for network configuration replaced by a network interface daemon (netifd). Alongside improvements and extensions to the firewall, the build system and drivers, the developers have also added (experimental) support for 5 and 10MHz wide wireless channels to the ath5k and ath9k Atheros wireless drivers. A detailed view of the changes in OpenWRT 12.09 can be found on the web site, where users can also download ready-to-use router firmware images. OpenWRT is licensed under the GPLv2.
