Second openSUSE 12.1 milestone released
Three weeks after the first milestone arrived, the openSUSE project release team has published the second milestone for version 12.1 of its openSUSE operating system. According to the developers, the latest milestone release includes a number of bug fixes, and more than 100 new and updated packages, such as a release candidate of Firefox 5. Other changes include improved Flash plug-in stability on 64-bit systems and a new systemd init system.
Aimed at developers, testers and early adopters, this latest development preview is the second of six planned milestone releases for the popular Linux distribution, the next of which is expected to arrive on 16 June, which will be followed by two release candidates. The final version of openSUSE 12.1 is scheduled for release on 11 November 2011.
The developers say that, "As expected from a development release, there is still a lot of work to do, so your input at this early stage will be a huge help in making the final release into the beautifully polished work that we aim for." Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.
More details about the development milestone can be found in the official release announcement; a list of the most annoying bugs is also provided. This second milestone for openSUSE 12.1 is available to download for 32- and 64-bit x86 systems as a DVD or LiveCD image from the project's developer / get it section. The latest stable release is openSUSE 11.4 from early March.
