SpringSource logo Following more than a year of development, SpringSource, the open source Java division of VMWare, has announced the "general availability" of version 2.1.0 of Spring Integration. According to project lead Mark Fisher, the new release includes a number of new features and resolves "hundreds of issues" found in the previous version. Spring Integration is an extension of the Spring framework for building asynchronous, event-driven applications and supporting Enterprise Integration Patterns such as Channels, Adapters, Filters and Translators.

Version 2.1 of Spring Integration adds support for GemFire, RabbitMQ and AMQP (Advanced Message Queuing Protocol), MongoDB and the open source Redis advanced key-value store. Building on the 2.0 release, which added support for Groovy, the update to Spring Integration also implements support for JSR-223 scripting, giving users the ability to use any scripting language that supports it, such as JavaScript, Ruby/JRuby and Python/Jython.

Other changes include Stored Procedure support through several new components such as inbound/outbound channel adapters and an Outbound Gateway, the introduction of inbound channel abstraction of Spring Resources, a Payload Enricher, and two new outbound gateways for interacting with FTP and SFTP servers. Users upgrading from Spring Integration 2.0 are advised to refer to the 2.0 to 2.1 migration guide.

More details about this new version can be found in the release announcement and in the change log. Spring Integration 2.1.0 is available to download from the Spring Community Downloads page or through Maven. A reference manual and API overview are provided. Source code for Spring Integration is released under version 2.0 of the Apache Licence.
