Transmageddon video transcoder for Linux updated
After more than a year in development, version 0.20 of Transmageddon has been released. According to lead developer Christian Schaller, the update to the open source video transcoder and remuxer for Linux and Unix systems took longer than originally planned for several reasons. These included waiting on fixes for various bugs in GStreamer upon which Transmageddon is built and for the new python-gstreamer 0.10.22 release.
Transmageddon 0.20 features a "heavily re-designed" user interface, and includes ports of the new plugins-base discoverer and encodebin elements, and support for container-free audio formats such as FLAC, mp3 and AAC. Other changes include the replacement of the radiobutton lists with a combobox, deinterlacing support, and the addition of HTML5 and Nokia 900 profiles, as well as support for MPEG-1 video and MPEG-2 audio. Support for audio-only transcoding and outputting audio-only from video+audio files has been added.
More details about the update can be found in the NEWS file, mailing list announcement and in a blog post by Schaller. Version 0.20 of Transmageddon is available to download from the project's site. Hosted on git.gnome.org, Transmageddon source code is licensed under the LGPLv2.1.
