VirtualBox Logo The latest 4.0.10 update to the cross-platform VirtualBox desktop virtualisation application for x86 hardware is now available. According to Oracle, the fifth stable update to VirtualBox 4.0 allows version 3.0 of GNOME to work "glitch-free" on Mac OS X hosts – fixes for GNOME 3 guests on Linux hosts were included in the previous version.

The release corrects a regression affecting installation of 64-bit Solaris 10u9 guests and addresses a memory leak in VBoxManage GuestControl. Other changes include fixes for VT-x detection on Linux 3.0 hosts and a rare screen corruption bug. A bug that would cause the settings widgets on KDE hosts to disappear has also been fixed. OS X Lion on Mac OS X hosts is now supported.

Details about the maintenance update, including a full list of changes, can be found in the change log. VirtualBox 4.0.10 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Solaris from the project's web site. The base Oracle VM VirtualBox product source code and the binary are both licensed under the GPLv2, while the Extension Pack mechanism, which allows third-party sources to add their own add-on functionality, is licensed under the PUEL.
