Vyatta 6.0 adds IPv6 and firewall improvements
Vyatta, an open source networking software and hardware specialist, has announced the release of version 6.0 of its Linux-based router and firewall software. The latest release of the networking distribution features a number of changes, including IPv6 and firewall enhancements, Netflow logging and analysis, and quality of service (QoS) improvements.
Vyatta Core 6.0 also marks the switch to an open-core model, in which all of the free open source components are included in the core, which replaces the previously available Vyatta Community Edition. Additional proprietary components can be added through the Subscription Editions.
Version 6.0 of Vyatta Subscription Edition includes a Remote Access API and simplified VPN client management. An optional Vyatta Plus add-on includes VyattaGuard web filtering. The commercial Subscription Editions of Vyatta include full support and priority bug fixes and start at $747 for a year. The Vyatta Plus add-on is an additional $205 per year.
More details about the release can be found in the release notes. Vyatta Core 6.0 is available to download as a 158 MB ISO image file and is released under the GNU General Public Licence (GPL).
