Election campaign kicks off for Debian Project leadership
The second phase of the annual election for the Debian Project leadership has begun, with Steve McIntyre, the incumbent Debian Project Leader, running for a second term. His opponent, Stefano Zacchiroli, is responsible for, among other things, the Package Tracking System, the Vim editor and the Python package.
Interested Debian developers can check out the election platforms of the two candidates at their respective campaign pages.
McIntyre cites his previous work and experience as Debian Project Leader and promises to keep the community better informed in future. He says he will enjoy support from Luk Claes in carrying out his tasks, because the job of Debian Project Leader is more than a single person can cope with.
Zacchiroli also promises particularly more regular reports on activities within the Debian developer community. He says he intends to be an approachable Project Leader who can be met with regularly, both at the usual Debian developer events and in "hot" discussions. Zacchiroli also wants to share the Project Leader's tasks. He has chosen two assistants, which will allow for personal redundancy. He considers that the DPL's period of office is too short for a full Debian Project Leader Board, so he wants to dispense with that idea and share the work with just two assistants.
Voting by Debian developers will run from the 29th March to the 11th April, and the newly elected Project Leader is to enter into office just five days later, on the 17th April.
