KDE's Rekonq browser turns 1.0

KDE developer Jonathan Riddell has announced that the Rekonq web browser has now reached version 1.0 and is available to download. Rekonq is a QtWebKit-based alternative to the more feature-rich Konqueror browser for the KDE desktop; it uses the WebKit rendering engine and aims to be faster, lightweight and simpler to use.
According to a blog post by developer Adjam, the focus of the 1.0 milestone of Rekonq was "cleaning up code and fixing bugs" to improve the application's overall stability. Adjam says that all of the 300+ bugs which were open on the project's KDE Bugzilla page during development were checked over and that more than 40 "REAL" bugs were fixed in the 1.0 release.
The Rekonq project's web site is currently a "temporary site" as the team was focused on getting version 1.0 out of the door. Now that it has been finished, the developers say that finishing the new Rekonq site will be their next target.
Rekonq 1.0 is available to download from the project's SourceForge page and is licensed under the GPLv3. Alternatively, Riddell notes that users testing Kubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" can install version 1.0 of Rekonq via the distribution's standard repository or via the Precise Backports repository for 12.04 LTS users.
