Open source DVR MythTV 0.23 RC1 released
The MythTV developers have announced the availability of the first release candidate (RC1) for version 0.23 of their open source digital video recorder (DVR). The latest development preview of the media centre for Linux includes several changes, updates and new features.
The next version of MythTV will feature a new event system, a new Arclight Theme and MythNetvision, an official Internet Video plug-in. The developers note that version 0.23 features expanded python bindings and rewritten audio, including simplified configuration, multi-channel upmixing and automatic re-sampling. Other changes include updates to Firewire support, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and audio and video playback. A number of the included plug-ins have also been updated.
As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are asked to report any bugs they encounter.
More details about the release can be found in the release announcement and preliminary release notes. MythTV 0.23 is available to download from the project's FTP site. MythTV is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL). A final release date has yet to be confirmed. The latest stable release is version 0.22 from November of last year.
